Starting July 15th, Darius Slay will be hosting the Big Play Slay Football Camp in Glynn County, his very own hometown. This highly-anticipated camp invites children from the surrounding region to join and gain invaluable knowledge from Slay himself, offering a unique opportunity to learn from one of the best cornerbacks in the league.
After successfully completing his 10th NFL season, Slay's career has been nothing short of remarkable, earning him many different accolades. With five Pro Bowl selections under his belt, he has racked up some pretty big numbers, accumulating 513 tackles, 133 pass deflections, 26 interceptions, four fumble recoveries, and four defensive touchdowns. Slay initially spent seven seasons as the Detroit Lions' premier cover corner before joining the Philadelphia Eagles three years ago. His pivotal contributions played a crucial role in propelling the franchise to Super Bowl LVII during the recent season.
Slay will be accompanied by some of his Philadelphia teammates, who will actively participate in the camp. This will provide the young athletes with an exclusive chance to work with some of the NFL's best, amplifying their skill set and understanding of the game.
With over 150 campers already registered, spots are filling up fast. Participants can expect to receive invaluable lessons and training from a player who knows what it takes to succeed at the highest level.
Slay's roots in the community make this camp even more special. From his impressive high school career, where he accumulated over 2,700 rushing yards and 34 rushing touchdowns, to his commitment to giving back, Slay has become a role model for aspiring athletes.
After his senior year, Slay began his college career at Itawamba Community College. Determined to improve both on and off the field, he earned back-to-back selections to the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges All-State First Team. Slay's hard work paid off when he transferred to Mississippi State, where he continued to excel and earn All-SEC honors.
Since making it to the NFL, Slay has remained dedicated to his hometown. His involvement in the Coastal Outreach Soccer program, alongside Shawn Williams, has led to the establishment of the Big Play Center of Excellence. This center provides academic support and various community service and leadership development opportunities.
Additionally, Slay has organized youth camps and donated to local programs, consistently giving back to the community that shaped him as an athlete and as an individual.
The Big Play Slay Football Camp is the latest endeavor by Slay to make a positive impact on the community. By sharing his knowledge and skills with aspiring football players, he hopes to inspire and guide the next generation of athletes in the Glynn County.
