Entering his tenth season in the NFL, Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Darius Slay was named one of the Eagles’ seven captains for the upcoming season. After being honored by the team Slay went to Twitter and mentioned how he strives to lead by example. He also stated that being named a captain is a “true blessing”.

Quarterback Jalen Hurts, one of the team captains on the offensive side of the football team mentioned how he wants a guy like Slay holding the honor of captain and leading the defense.

Even though this was Slay’s first team being named to captain status, his play has never been in question. Darius Slay is well established as one of the best defensive players in the league at his position.

He has been selected as a Pro Bowl corner in four of his nine seasons, three with the Detroit Lions and one with the Eagles, and voted to the First-Team AP All-Pro team in 2017. Slay earned his captainship after his second season with the Eagles in which he played 16 games having three interceptions, nine pass deflections, and three defensive touchdowns. Look to Slay this season to be a leader of the Eagles’ defense and to continue his successful NFL career.
