Despite suffering a loss in his week one NFL game, New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones managed to make a lasting impression on both fans and opponents alike. One of the latest endorsements comes from Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Darius Slay, who had a unique perspective on Jones' performance.
In a video on his YouTube channel, Slay acknowledged that he returned Jones's first-quarter interception for a touchdown. However, he also gave credit to the young quarterback for his response to the early setback.
"I've got to give a shoutout to Mac Jones," Slay expressed. "He had a great game."
Although the Eagles forced early turnovers, the Patriots' offense found its rhythm as the game progressed.
"We got two of them," Slay stated, referring to the turnovers. "But [Jones] got his groove going and he was making great checks, making accurate throws. You know he missed some throws, but he was just making great plays."
Slay also provided some insight into the Patriots' offensive coordinator, Bill O'Brien.
Discussing the Eagles' formidable defensive line, Slay acknowledged that despite their talent, the Patriots were able to neutralize the pass rush thanks to O'Brien's game plan.
"If you watch the game, they were doing nothing but quick game all day," Slay pointed out. "Quick game, getting [the ball] out of there, throwing the ball, little drop here, little drop there. That's the way to slow down a rush: screens, you know what I'm saying?"
He further commented, "They did a great job trying to stop our pass rush from getting there," acknowledging the Patriots' strategic approach.
However, Slay emphasized that the Eagles still managed to reach the quarterback twice and could have had more opportunities to do so.
The Eagles, now 1-0 as the defending NFC champions, are preparing to face the Minnesota Vikings in Week 2. Meanwhile, the Patriots will host the Miami Dolphins in a highly anticipated Sunday Night Football matchup.
With his commendable performance and the recognition from a seasoned player like Darius Slay, Mac Jones has undoubtedly made an impact early in his NFL career. As the season progresses, fans and critics alike will be eagerly awaiting his next move on the field.
